Wimbledon, England (Sports Network) - The men's semifinals will be staged Friday at Wimbledon, with the marquee match of the fortnight thus far pitting world No. 1 Rafael Nadal against Australian Open runner-up Andy Murray of Great Britain.
The other semi will pit third-seeded Novak Djokovic against 12th-seeded Czech Tomas Berdych.
The 24-year-old Nadal will meet the 23-year-old Murray for an 11th time, with the Spaniard leading their all-time series 7-3. Nadal beat Murray in the quarterfinals here in 2008, the year the Spaniard went on to beat Roger Federer in their remarkable final to claim his lone Wimbledon championship.
The Dunblane, Scotland native Murray, however, beat Nadal in their last meeting, the quarterfinals at this year's Australian Open. The two stars have split four career Grand Slam matchups.
The high-flying seven-time major titlist Nadal has won 29 of his last 30 matches on tour, including a fifth French Open title four weeks ago. He lost to Federer in the 2006 and 2007 Wimbledon finales, titled here two years ago, and missed Wimbledon 2009 because of knee injuries.
Nadal is seeded second here despite holding the world No. 1 ranking.
The fourth-seeded Murray will appear in his fourth career major semifinal (2-1). The two-time Grand Slam runner-up is trying to give the Brits their first male Wimbledon champion in 74 years. The last British man to reach the final here was Bunny Austin in 1938.
In the other semi, the former Aussie Open champion Djokovic will meet the 6- foot-4 Berdych for a third time, with the Serb taking their first two encounters in straight sets.
Berdych posted the biggest win of his career here on Wednesday by stunning the top-seeded six-time Wimbledon champion Federer in four sets in the quarterfinals.
The steady 23-year-old Djokovic will appear in his eight career major semi (2-5). He was the Aussie Open champ in 2008.
Djokovic reached the Wimbledon semis in 2007, but was forced to retire against Nadal due to a foot injury while trailing in the third set that day.
The 24-year-old Berdych will appear in his second straight Grand Slam semifinal, having also turned the trick at the French Open just four weeks ago.
The surging Berdych has won 13 of his last 14 matches on tour.
Friday's winners will square off in the lucrative final here on Sunday. Federer defeated American Andy Roddick in last year's marathon finale, which included a 30-game fifth set.
