Berlin, Germany (Sports Network) - World No. 2 Ana Ivanovic was bounced in the semifinal of the $1.34 million German Open by seventh-seeded Elena Dementieva, setting up an all-Russian final at the clay-court French Open tuneup.
Dementieva, a two-time Grand Slam runner-up, downed the 20-year-old Serbian 6-2, 7-5 and will play fellow compatriot Dinara Safina in Sunday's final. Dementieva is in search of her 10th WTA title, and second of the year.
Ivanovic, the defending Berlin champion, was playing in her second match of the day, as first she had to finish off her 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 quarterfinal win over 10th-seeded Hungarian Agnes Szavay, which had been halted after the second set on Friday due to darkness.
The 13th-seeded Safina continued her win streak on Saturday, downing Belarusian Victoria Azarenka 6-4, 6-1 to roll into Sunday's final. Safina knocked off two top-10 superstars on Thursday and Friday to advance to the semifinals, as she ousted world No. 1 Justine Henin in straight sets on Thursday and outlasted Serena Williams on Friday in three sets.
Safina will appear in her 10th career final, and will try to take home her sixth title, and first since winning at Gold Coast in 2007.
The 2008 German Open titlist will pocket $196,900.
