's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands (Sports Network) - Top-seeded and former runner-up Elena Dementieva was a quarterfinal winner, while second-seeded and defending champion Anna Chakvetadze came up a loser Thursday at the Ordina Open, a final Wimbledon tune-up.
The two-time Grand Slam runner-up Dementieva handled Romanian wild card Sorana Cirstea 6-2, 6-4, while Chakvetadze was upended by eighth-seeded Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 on the grass courts at Autotron Rosmalen. The Russian Chakvetadze upset Serbian Jelena Jankovic in last year's finale here. The Russian Dementieva reached the Ordina final in 2002.
One other quarterfinal on Day 5 saw Thai qualifier Tamarine Tanasugarn come from behind to top heavy Dutch crowd favorite Michaella Krajicek 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Tanasugarn rallied from 3-5 down in the third set to advance.
Krajicek captured this title in 2006.
Friday's semifinals will pit Dementieva against third-seeded fellow Russian Dinara Safina and Bondarenko versus Tanasugarn. Safina learned that she reached the semis here on Wednesday when seventh-seeded Slovenian Katarina Srebotnik pulled out of the tournament due to a left ankle injury, thus giving the Russian a walkover into the final four.
The hot Safina was this month's French Open runner-up to Serbian Ana Ivanovic and has won 14 of her last 15 matches, including a title in Berlin last month.
