Flushing Meadows, NY (Sports Network) - The combatants for the 2010 women's final at the U.S. Open will be decided on Friday, when top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki meets No. 7 seed Vera Zvonareva and second-seeded Kim Clijsters takes on No. 3 seed Venus Williams.
Clijsters is 6-6 lifetime against her fellow former world No. 1 Williams, including 2-2 in Grand Slam encounters. Williams beat Clijsters in the quarterfinals at the 2001 U.S. Open, but Clijsters has won their last two meetings in Flushing, in the quarters in 2005 and the fourth round here a year ago.
The Belgian Clijsters has beaten the American Williams in their last four matchups overall, including a championship match one at the so-called "Fifth Major" in Miami earlier this season.
Clijsters is the reigning U.S. Open champ, having beaten Wozniacki in last year's finale. The Belgian star also titled here in 2005 and was the runner-up to her compatriot Justine Henin in 2003.
Williams owns seven major titles, including a pair of U.S. Open ones (2000, 2001). She was also a runner-up here in 1997 and 2002.
The Danish Wozniacki will meet the Wimbledon runner-up Zvonareva of Russia for a fifth time, with the two splitting their first four meetings. They've split a pair of matchups this season, including a championship match victory for the Dane in Montreal last month.
Wozniacki, who has yet to drop a set at the '10 Open, is riding a 13-match winning streak overall, including hardcourt titles in Montreal and New Haven.
The women's final will be staged here on Saturday night, with the winner claiming at least $1.7 million. Wozniacki would pocket another $1 million, or $2.7 million total, with a title this week by virtue of winning the U.S. Open Series leading up to the year's final Grand Slam event.
