Tobias Harris trade makes Philadelphia 76ers favorites to win Eastern Conference

Last Tuesday, Tobias Harris did this for the Clippers. Five hours later, he was traded to the 76ers.

The 76ers traded rookie sharpshooter Landry Shamet, forward Wilson Chandler, forward Mike Muscala, their 2020 first-round pick, the Heat's 2021 first-round pick and their 2021 and 2023 second-round picks to the Clippers for Harris, backup center Boban Marjanovic and stretch forward Mike Scott.

Adding Harris gives the 76ers one of the best starting lineups in the NBA and sportsbooks like Jazz Sports noticed it and improved their odds to win the East after completing the trade.

I like the Tobias Harris, the 76ers now have a tremendous starting five and there should always be at least one of Embiid, Simmons, Butler and Harris on the floor.

Even before adding Harris, the 76ers were the only team in the league with four players averaging at least 17.0 points per game this season. The Harris trade gives them a fifth.

Ben Simmons 17.0 points per game

JJ Redick 18.3 points per game

Jimmy Butler 19.5 points per game

Tobias Harris 20.9 points per game

Joel Embiid 27.4 points per game

Today the 76ers also added Rockets forward James Ennis for swap rights to a 2021 second-round pick. Ennis was averaging 7.4 points in 23.7 minutes over 40 games and he will help add depth to their bench, which can make a difference in the playoffs.
